An iconic setting with a beautiful lake and well preserved traffic-free town centre, Zell am See attracts the ski crowd and plenty of summer visitors. The ski area itself is not huge, but has a great variety of terrain and and plenty on offer in the area including Kaprun, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier – often open til July – and the Saalbach linked resorts. A lift connection to the huge Saalbach complex is on the table, currently a short bus ride is required, this would be a game changer for Zell when it happens. Even with comprehensive snowmaking, conditions lower down will usually be less favourable for skiing, however there is a reasonable range of slopes above 1400m.
What about apartment and ski chalet properties for sale in Zell am See? To us, the Austrian property market is excellent value in the context of the rest of the Alps, ski resorts have made a huge effort to upgrade their infrastructure and offer comprehensive snow-making, this matters to property investors. With over 2m overnight stays annually in the region (including Zell), the property rental market is a solid proposition for property owners. With the exception of a few 2 or 3 bedroom ski chalets, property in town tends to be apartments, those within walking distance to the Cityxpress lift command a premium, some wonderful chalets overlooking the lake can be found out of town.
