Why do we favour one ski resort over another? What makes us try a new place, and go back? It is a complicated question - is it the culture, the ambience, or are there other more tangible factors?
Does the skiing suit me? Are the pistes spacious or crowded, is it big enough, does it have lots of groomed runs, are the lifts efficient and comfortable, can I be sure of snow?
Alpine Property intelligence is proud to join with Montenius Consult to present a new way to answer these questions – which is factual, unbiased and unopinionated.
“A VALUABLE NEW TOOL FOR HOLIDAY DECISIONS AND PROPERTY INVESTORS”
• Skimiles® measures the size of every ski resort by 10 specific factors •
• Ski Area Comfort is determined by the efficiency of the lifts, the comfort of the lifts and how much ‘elbow room’ there is on the piste •
• Snow Reliability considers the altitude, snowfall data and snowmaking coverage •
• Ski Area Value combines all these factors for one easy to recognise overall result •
Les Portes du Soleil consist of 5 separate ski areas. The data displayed refers to the largest one (core area between Morzine and Champery). The total length of runs for all areas is 462 km.
Morzine is a traditional and charming market town in the Portes du Soleil; straddling a river gorge, Morzine offers a huge range of both summer and winter activities. Characterised by tree lined slopes and intermediate terrain well suited to beginners with linked skiing to the more challenging runs in Avoriaz, it is a resort that can grow with you as your skills develop. With considerable investment in snowmaking and lift infrastructure around the mountain, queues are decreasing and demonstrate that Morzine means business. Numerous hotels, chalets, shops, bars and restaurants are clustered around the main route through the village and most facilities are within walking distance adding to the popularity of this thriving resort.
What about property in Morzine? Morzine attracts an international clientele of buyers and visitors. Chalets line both sides of the valley rising up from the busy village centre and there are some new apartment buildings springing up. Prices for luxury new chalets range from €8500-11,000 per sqm. Prices come down further from the village centre and down the valley towards Montriond and Essert-Romand. The dual-seasonality of the resort, its situation in the Portes du Soleil and the fact that is is only one hour fifteen minutes from Geneva airport all underpin demand for property.
