OVERVIEW - SKI RESORTS IN SWITZERLAND

The cultural diversity of Switzerland is also reflected in its ski resorts, many of which are the most quintessential and historic winter sports destinations of the Alps. Almost all are accessible by train, which means you will always get there on time.

Andermatt is central Switzerland’s largest ski area, its transformation into an exclusive international destination is remarkable; only here can investors of any nationality buy property in Switzerland. The Bernese Oberland is famous for its lakes and spectacular mountains, such as the Eiger and Jungfrau. Grindelwald is a very popular base in summer and winter and is the starting point for the railway up to Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe. Gstaad is the epitome of a lifestyle resort and its old world charm exudes discrete luxury. In the Graubünden region in the east of the country, Flims-Laax-Falera is a top resort for freestyle skiing and snow-boarders, easy to reach from Zürich. Klosters is an unspoiled and affluent mountain village, popular for generations, with an extensive ski area connected to Davos. In the Engadin valley Saint Moritz, twice host to the Winter Olympics, is one of the classic, and perhaps the most exclusive, alpine winter destinations. The canton of Valais contains the highest concentration in the Alps of summits above 4,000m. Here, Verbier is one of the world’s iconic ski resorts, with a property market to match. Sharing the same Four Valleys ski area, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and La Tzoumaz are worthy lower profile alternatives. Sunny Crans Montana has a large all year population and one of the broadest offerings in Alpine tourism. A quiet and charming village with epic skiing, that would be Grimentz. Champéry is part of the vast Portes du Soleil on the Swiss side. Villars is a time-honoured year-round resort with 4 international schools. A visit to Saas-Fee is a very Swiss experience, it has one of the highest ski areas in the Alps and a property market that is considered good value in the context of the other top ski resorts in the country.
