“The great advantage with the slopes in the 3 Vallées is that skiers will never feel like they’re going in circles, regardless of their level.” Things are off to a good start! The slopes stretch nearly 600km with an almost perfect mix of beginners slopes (green and blue) and those designed for more experienced skiers.
The perfect resort for learning
First-time skiers can head over to Courchevel’s golf course. “The area is sheltered from the flow of other skiers and is equipped with three moving walkways.” Next, head to the Altiport and enjoy the wide slopes at the “Zen practice” area. “Depending on how fast they learn,” says Jean-Hugues Poirel, “skiers can explore the various levels Courchevel has to offer: ski over to La Tania and why not travel down Col de la Loze to end up in Méribel.”
Multiple sectors for one huge network of slopes
Experienced skiers will enjoy concocting an extra-varied programme: “You can quite easily plan a day in Saint Martin de Belleville near les Ménuires, spend the next day in Val Thorens and even a third in the Orelle area, also called the fourth valley”. But where will you be sleeping? “It’s of no real importance, given that Le Praz, Mottaret and Courchevel Moriond are all connected by fast and practical transportation networks,” explains our guide, before adding: “If you’re staying in La Tania, for example, you can access the same ski slopes as your friends in Courchevel 1850 with a single ski pass.” A major strong point, which is nowhere near the last on the list.
A paradise for kids
Courchevel 1850 also boasts the largest kids’ Skiing Village in France. No less than 5km of slopes in a recently renovated dream-like decor are exclusively reserved for your children. Here, they will learn the founding technique of skiing, also known as the all-mighty “pointy hat”. After a day of skiing and enjoying a meal at the village’s canteen, kids under 3 can have a rest at the day nursery or play in the elf’s hut.
